Hiking Proposal - Spain September 2011

Guadarrama Mountain Range - North of Madrid

Missed Opportunity:

My parent’s farm house, north of Madrid, could be up for sale in the next couple of years. My parents are in their late 70’s and my father has started to have some health issues. We should take the opportunity to hike this area. There are a number of day hikes which include hiking peaks from 9000- 13000 ft. There is also a loop where you can stay in a “refuge”, a mountain hut as you trek the 13000 ft peaks.

My fathers village is called Manjiron. Click on this and use the map to look at the scenery. You can walk the streets. The farm house is in the main square see if you can navigate to the house.
Manjiron is about a 45 minute drive from Madrid. Although we are in the country we are a very close to number of villages with many bars and restaurants.

There are other things to do beside hike.

Buitrago the local larger town is a walled Roman village
Segovia is about a 1.5 hour drive, Roman Aquaducts, Castle
Avila 3 hrs - Walled city
Toledo is about 4 hrs, Medieval Capital of Spain
La Granja - Phillip V, Palace in Mountains, Versaille of Spain
The cost for the trip is estimated at $1300. Our hiking trips usually range in the $400-$600 range, while our canoe trips are sometimes more.
